Five Energy Saving Tips for Fall

The fall season is finally upon us, and this is great news for you and your wallet. This season is perfect for saving big on your energy bill, and the Kissimmee air conditioning professionals at All Temp AC and Refrigeration have five energy saving tips that will keep your energy bill low.

  • Heat from the sun: Instead of cranking up your air conditioner or heater to counter the chilly day, consider opening your curtains. Sunlight can naturally heat your home and helps reduce your energy consumption. Make sure to close the curtains at night to prevent cold from coming in through the windows.
  • Adjust the temperature: You should feel comfortable with the temperature in your home, but when you are out of the house or asleep, consider turning your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees. This can save you around 10% annually on your energy bills.
  • Seal leaks: Heat can be lost by leaks that lead outside throughout your home. These leaks can occur from the spacing under your garage or main door, chimneys, and windows. You can inspect for visual leaks by checking your electrical outlets, vents and fans, and baseboards for gaps that can cause air leaks. You can seal your windows by applying the appropriate caulk. Also, you can use weatherstripping to seal the bottom of your doors.
  • Tune-up your heating system: Now is a good time to have service scheduled for your heating system. An HVAC professional is able to detect early signs of problems in your heating system and can save you the headache of having no heat during the upcoming winter months. Having an efficient air conditioning and heating system also saves you energy that would otherwise be wasted.
  • Lower water heating: Heating your water can be costly, consuming about 18% of all the energy used in your home. You can counter this by setting your water heater to the warm setting (120°F). This will effectively lower your energy consumption without totally sacrificing the heat of your water.
