Why is My Air Conditioning Blowing Hot Air?

It’s never a good sign when you notice your air conditioner blowing hot air. Your home’s interior becomes warm with stale air that isn’t being cycled properly, only making you extremely uncomfortable. Air conditioning is a luxury we all take for granted, so whenever a problem occurs with it and we’re without AC, figuring out and solving the issue are high priorities. Many homeowners assume the worst and expect they’ll need to pay costly repairs to have the problem fixed, but Brandon air conditioning company, All Temp, can offer three possible reasons why your AC may be blowing hot air and ways to possibly fix them yourself.

  • Check the Thermostat Setting: Sometimes the solution is as simple as switching the setting to the correct function. It isn’t uncommon for the thermostat to accidentally be set to “heat” when it should be set to “cool.” Also, having your thermostat set to “on” doesn’t mean it’ll be blowing cool air. It only means the fan is blowing air but it isn’t being cooled by the air conditioner. The simple way to remedy this problem is by switching the thermostat to “cool” and “auto.”
  • Clog in the Exterior Unit: Air conditioners have both interior and exterior sections that must work together in order to provide your home with cool air. If the outside unit is clogged with debris such as leaves and dirt, this will hinder its performance because airflow is being blocked on its way to the condenser coil. Airflow must be continuous for the air conditioner to properly cool your home. The best way to prevent this happening is by clearing the area around the unit of any debris. Also, many AC units are surrounded by bushes or trees, so they should be trimmed to avoid blocking airflow.
  • Exterior Unit Loses Power: It’s possible for the interior unit to still have power when the exterior unit loses it. As mentioned before, both parts must work together to cool the home, so the interior unit alone can’t cool the home by itself. There are two ways the exterior unit can lose power, either from the emergency shutoff switch or the circuit breaker. Flipping either switch from “off” and then back to “on” can fix this problem. It’s important to note that if the breaker repeatedly trips for the AC unit, then there may be more of an electrical problem that Brandon air conditioning company, All Temp, can come and diagnose for you.

It’s important for Brandon air conditioning units to keep pumping cool air into Central Florida homes because the summer days are hot enough as it is for homeowners to endure hot air inside as well as outside. If none of these quick fixes solved your hot air problem, then contact All Temp at 813-630-9400 to have an expert fix it for you.
