3 Commercial Refrigeration Tips

Whether residing in a restaurant, grocery store or other facility, ice machines, coolers, refrigerators and freezers are critical business appliances that need to be kept in good working order if they are to do their jobs. And while most businesses have professional service engineers who perform maintenance and/or repairs on their machines, there are some things that can be done by the owner to improve performance and reduce costs. If you’d like more information on how best to keep your machines running at their peak, contact the Orlando commercial refrigeration professionals at All Temp AC and Refrigeration. Until then, below are three tips, all of which are based on periodic inspection of equipment, to help you keep your cooling machines operating at their best between service calls.

Keep your coils clean—one of the biggest contributors to cooling equipment problems is dust gathering on compressor coils. It’s also one of the most preventable problems in Orlando commercial refrigeration as the coils for virtually every machine are easily accessible. Find out how to get to yours and dust them off periodically. Doing so will prevent overheated wiring, a failed fan motor or a broken compressor.

Check door gaskets—those rubber seals that line cooler doors are meant to keep cool air in and warm and/or humid air out. Broken or worn seals cause the cooler to work harder, increasing utility bills and the chance of something else breaking.

Check and clean drain lines—virtually all cooling systems cause water condensation which builds up and drips. Those drips are generally routed to drain lines where they are removed from the area. Some coolers have drain lines that start at the top of a cooling machine while others at the bottom. In either case, it’s critical that those lines don’t get clogged because that can lead to backups which can cause damage to electronics and other equipment parts. To keep that from happening, a straw can be used to blow air through the path that water takes, making sure the water can drain as it should.

Simple maintenance tips like those listed above can dramatically improve cooling system performance, reduce utility bills and lower repair costs. For that reason, owners are urged to perform visual checks of their machines on a regular basis.
