Most Common Ice Machine Problems

If you have an ice machine for use in a bar, hotel or other establishment, the chances are good that you’ve experienced problems with it—ice machines have problems because they are not based on a closed system because water and temperature can impact how well they are able to function. If you are experiencing difficulty with your ice machine, call the Orlando ice machine repair experts at All Temp AC and Refrigeration, we can fix whatever problems you may be having and help prevent other issues in the future. In the meantime, here are some common ice-machine problems and what you can do to fix or prevent them:

Undersized Cubes—Generally happens due to a poor water supply or clogged filter. Ice machines need a reasonable amount of water pressure to function properly.

Oversized Cubes—This can happen when too much water is getting into the ice machine because of a leaky inlet valve. It’s best to get the problem fixed or you might find your machine freezing up.

Low Ice Production—Oftentimes this occurs because the water that is coming into the ice machine is either too warm or too cold. Putting the machine in a cooler room can help if it’s too hot, then insulate the water lines and that should fix the problem. Note: Temperature extremes in either direction can cause your ice machine to stop working altogether. Also, a dirty condenser can cause production problems, so occassionally wipe the dust off the coils.

Low Quality Ice Cubes—The problem here lies with the quality of water being delivered to the machine. Minerals in the water can build up on your evaporator plate, causing poor ice development.

Machine Not Working as Desired—As ice machines have become more sophisticated, they have also become more prone to problems associated with human error. Problems with punching in desired settings, for example, or setting it to run or not run at certain times can be solved by reading the manual or calling a service-repair technician.

Machine Not Working at All—Check to make sure it’s plugged in—machines become unplugged for a wide variety of reasons.
