The 5 Most Important Things About Your HVAC

There are many parts to an air conditioner that are unknown to most homeowners. These parts remain hidden, quietly doing their job as they keep us cool or even warm when the weather calls for it. Your local Kissimmee AC repair company, All Temp, is there for all your AC needs, but in the meantime, here are the five most important things about your HVAC that all homeowners should know about.

  • Compressor: The main purpose of the AC unit is to take whatever hot air there is inside the house and expel it outside. The compressor helps do just that as it changes gas into a liquid and then starts cooling the home. The compressor’s job is to take refrigerant and flow it through the AC system continuously. The refrigerant is a chemical that travels to the compressor once the temperature on the thermostat is adjusted. High-pressure gas is converted from low-pressure gas, and the heat from high-pressure gas goes into the condenser. Without the function of the compressor, the AC unit wouldn’t be able to properly cool or heat the home.
  • Condenser: The gas is condensed to make the matter a liquid state and start the process for heat transfer. Since the condenser exchanges heat, it removes that heat from inside the air conditioner. This ultimately drops the temperature of the gas and becomes a liquid. That cold liquid later vaporizes and essentially cools down the room.
  • Evaporator: The vaporizing of the liquid created by the condenser occurs in the evaporator. The evaporator has low pressure which enables it to turn liquids into gas. Hot air is taken from the room and blown over a coil that has been cooled by the evaporator. This will continue until the room temperature matches the thermostat temperature.
  • Expansion Valve: Although the expansion valve isn’t a very complex component of the AC unit, it is still very important. Without the expansion valve, the amount of refrigerant traveling to the evaporator wouldn’t be properly controlled.
  • Muffler: The compressor in the AC unit makes a lot of noise and that’s why the muffler is important as it muffles that sound and keeps your living space nice and quiet.

All these parts in the AC unit are critical in keeping homeowners comfortable. Air conditioners allow us to live without the warm, stale feeling we’ve all experienced at one time or another.
