If you are responsible for the continued operation of a commercial refrigeration system, you know that repairs can mount up, taking away from profits. One of the ways to reduce such costs is by performing some minor routine maintenance yourself, or by having your staff do it.
If you’d like some assistance with such maintenance, or would like to learn more about how you can keep your equipment up and running, or need refrigeration repair in Kissimmee, call the experts at All Temp AC and Refrigeration. We can help make sure your refrigeration units are doing their job so you won’t have to worry. In the meantime, here are three basic do-it-yourself tips for your commercial refrigeration systems:
- Clean the Condenser Coil: Every cooling system, whether refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, or ice maker, has a condenser coil. Some can be seen and cleaned simply by looking behind the unit, others will need to have the cover removed. In either case, dust tends to collect on the coil, especially in kitchens because of the grease in the air from cooking. Dust prevents the coil from doing its job, namely drawing air. Also, obstructions can lead to high utility bills and component failure. Clean them by using a vacuum to remove all the dust.
- Clean and Inspect the Door Gaskets: The purpose of the rubber seals around doors is to keep cool air in and warm (moist) air out. Dirty gaskets can prevent a good seal, and it’s easy to fix. Just wash them down with warm soapy water. Cracked or broken gaskets can present the same problem and can be easily replaced. Good clean gaskets help keep down utility costs and prevent overloading the unit’s cooling system.
- Check the Drain Outlets: All cooling systems expel some amount of water, and because of that, they need some sort of drainage system. Drain lines are a part of that system, and one of the things that can happen over time is they get clogged. A sure sign of clogging is a puddle of water beneath the cooling system. Luckily, preventing and fixing clogs is relatively simple. Just get an ordinary kitchen straw, poke it into the opening of the drainage tube, surround both with a cloth to prevent air from blowing back out, and then blow on the other end of the straw with your mouth.
Following these three tips can help reduce maintenance costs by reducing the load on the cooling system and by helping to avert bigger problems. That doesn’t mean you should forget about commercial maintenance as most systems still need a professional to perform periodic maintenance, about twice a year is about right.
